Makani Kawai Anuhea O'akua Bright

Music Performance and Applied Mathematics Double Major

Makani is pursuing a degree in both Music Performance and Applied Mathematics. The Music Performance degree requires a substantial academic core of classes plus a rigorous public performance requirement, including: performing in multiple ensembles every semester and a solo senior recital which displays the culmination of their musical study on their instrument.

Makani participated in the Percussive Arts Society California Competitive Festival in 2021, where she competed in two of the four categories and was awarded as the first-place winner in both. Makani currently is the reigning first place winner for the state of California in both the "4-Mallet Solo Percussion Keyboard Category" and the "2-Mallet Solo Percussion Keyboard Category" which is an accomplishment for an undergraduate in her junior year of college. Makani will compete in the 2022 Percussive Arts Society California/Nevada Competitive Festival in the category of "Multiple Percussion" which requires advanced cumulative skills.  Makani musical abilities are stunning, and her achievements have come through her unquestioned work ethic and through her sustained commitment to maintaining excellence in her work every semester of her studies.Congratulations Makani!
