Nominated By: Christina Hsu Accomando

In the words of her nominator...

Clarissa Readen is a dedicated interdisciplinary scholar, majoring in English (teaching concentration) and minoring in three different programs: American Indian Education, Ethnic American Literatures and Native American Studies. The knowledge she has gained in her classes has sharpened her ideas to build the skills she will use when she returns to work as a teacher in the River schools. We have seen some of her growth through her other leadership--volunteering in the classroom when she returns home on breaks at Orleans Elementary, working as a tutor for local area students, and as a panelist for a virtual training/ roundtable discussion hosted by Northern California Indian Development Council on 'Empowering Educators to Improve the Status of Native American Education in Humboldt and Del Norte Counties’. She not only contributes her voice to class discussion, revealing a mature and historically-informed grasp of the material, but also was a key player in building community and collaborative learning among other students in the class.
