Marcos’ master’s project, which fills an important space in the field of Writing Studies, and his thoughtful engagement with the coursework of the graduate program make him a stand-out candidate for this award. His tremendous civic-mindedness translates into a willingness to talk about his experiences in the graduate program to potential applicants as well as incoming graduate students, who have benefitted mightily from his candidness about the challenges he faced. Marcos is applying what he learned as an undergraduate and graduate student at HSU to important scholarly pursuits and university initiatives inclusive of his work as the administrator for HSU’s Toyon Literary Magazine.
