Kevin Rodger Soland

Master of Science ~ Natural Resources: Forestry, Watershed, & Wildland Sciences

His thesis title is: Efficacy of Forest Restoration Treatments Across a 40-Year Chronosequence at Redwood National Park

Nominated by Professor Lucy P. Kerhoulas

Kevin was nominated for his tireless enthusiasm towards his impressively independent thesis work and willingness to help other graduate students. His Master of Science is incredibly ambitious including not only two years of fieldwork involving tree physiology measurements, tree-ring analyses, and monitoring of understory biodiversity, but a summary of the history of Redwood National Park hundreds of years prior to pre-European arrival as well. Kevin has worked closely with agency employees at Redwood National Park, trained and coordinated multiple undergraduate and graduate students in the field, made generous contributions to his lab, and self-taught numerous lab and analysis methods.
